Dominican Republic Considers FTAs with US and Mexico

Minister of Industry and Commerce Angel Lockward has announced that the Dominican Republic is seeking free trade agreements with both Mexico and the United States. According to the on-line news service Dominican Republic One, some Dominican business sectors oppose this course, arguing that the country would have more to gain from the FTAA. They also favor waiting until the larger South American economies negotiate free trade deals with the US that could gain more concessions for the Caribbean.
