Mexico Now Third Leading Market for Florida Exports

Florida exports to Mexico increased by 58% in 2000, a greater increase than for any other country. The increase moved Mexico up to number three on the list of Florida's top export markets, up from sixth place the year before.

According to the Sun-Sentinel, Mexico imported $1.8 billion in Florida-origin exports last year, a $670 million increase from 1999. Only Brazil and Canada consumed more Florida-origin exports, defined as goods produced, mined or grown in Florida. State development officials credited a series of public- and private-sector trade missions to Mexico with contributing to the increase.

The data reported in the Sun-Sentinel shows a 7.6% increase in total Florida-origin exports in 2000, reversing a near 3% drop in 1999.
