February
The Small Caribbean
Economies and the Free Trade Area of the Americas, February 21, Castries, St.
Lucia. This event was organized by SOAC and Daytona Beach Community College
(DBCC) through the Florida-Caribbean Institute. This day long event included a
morning session with invited participants from the region to discuss the
challenges of the smaller Caribbean economies in the FTAA. Papers produced from
this meeting will be presented at the annual conference of the Caribbean Studies
Association in May. During the afternoon session private and public sector
representatives from the local community were invited to participate in the
discussions.

Dollarization & Latin
America: Quick Cure or Bad Medicine? March 4. This conference is part of the
State of Democracy in the Americas Series. Experts from the hemisphere discussed
the current state of dollarization in Latin America, and the recent Argentine
economic crisis.

Republica Dominicana. This event was organized for the Secretaria de Estado de
Relaciones Exteriores, Comision Nacional de Negociaciones Comerciales, Republica
Dominicana.

The Small Caribbean
Economies and the Free Trade Area of the Americas, May 29, 10:30am-noon. SOAC,
DBCC and the Florida Caribbean Institute will present a panel at the annual
conference of the Caribbean Studies Association in Nassau, Bahamas.
