Hemispheric Trade Agreements
The trend toward trade integration in the Americas has reached a major threshold in the mid-1990s.Every subregion in the hemisphere has developed bilateral arrangements, multilateral free trade areas and trading blocs. Hemispheric leaders have promoted the so-called Miami Process, stemming from the 1994 Summit of the Americas, which calls for the establishment of a Free Trade Area of the Americas by the year 2005.
